Must remain constant throughout the sequence, and the noise must be kept low to suppress unpleasant flickering in the final movie. If you want to include views that transition from before sunset or after sunrise, you need to manually adjust the exposure time of the images in the sequence to compensate for the brightness variation. Set the duration of each exposure by trial and error; the exposures should range from a few seconds to a minute, similar to still shots of the sky. Be sure to include an interval of at least a few seconds between shots so the camera will have time to save each image to the memory card.

They all deliver excellent results in astrophotography. The brand and the number of pixels have become less important than the sensor size, with the 24 × 36mm format being the best. Because of its small size, the performance of the Four Thirds format (Olympus) is not as good as that of the APS-C format. Canon DSLRs are currently favored by astrophotographers because of their defiltering and Clip-Filter technologies (chapter 7), and because of their ability to be controlled by third-party programs, such as PRISM, MaxIm DL, EOS Camera Movie Record (EOS_movrec), BackyardEOS, Astro Photography Tool, AstrojanTools, Magic Lantern, and others.

Sensors are dark gray instead of black, which is evidence that not all light is absorbed. ff Even when a sensor has microlenses, the photosites do not completely fill the surface of the sensor. Photons are lost in the spaces between the photosites, especially at the antiblooming drains and, for an interline sensor, the transfer registers. ff Although ultraviolet photons have more energy than visible light photons, they do not penetrate silicon very well. Most of the photons cannot trigger the photoelectric effect.
